Organizing is not Fun

Though it sure is fun to find things I hadn't seen since our move!  These five boxes (notice 4 of them are Dish Packs) were all unpacked in the last two days ... not everything has been organized into its eventual home, but it sure is nice to have more boxes unpacked and floor space cleared in the basement.

 

BUT I really do not enjoy organizing all of the fabrics and patterns (and other goodies) as unpacking and petting all the fabric sparks creative ideas and I would much rather work with the fabrics than organize them.

Why am I focusing on something I don't want to do? We are having company later in the month for a Christmas party ... and I would like to have some *away* space to send the younger generation. IF I don't get the basement organized, there will be no place to send them *sigh*

Maybe the next post will have pictures of an organized sewing area and family room in the basement :)

Project Quilting ... I didn't get it done in time

This is the project I started for Project Quilting's Offseason Challenge.

It may have been a challenge with a two week deadline, but I have not been able to accomplish it in the time given - if I didn't have kids at home and if I weren't involved in various things ... maybe I could get things done. 

AND this quilt insisted on being big.

 I've never done a Stained Glass style quilt before so I was winging it. Not the best way to do a quilt ... next time I'll know how to do some things in an easier fashion and save TONS of headaches!

I am loving how it is turning out, just wishing I had it finished!

prepping for a craft show...

I've been busy!

I finally found the missing sewing/quilting boxes from our move and thus have been able to start organizing my new Sewing Dungeon! YAY!

I've been quilting - some for other people and some just because I want to :)

AND I made lots of soap (no pics yet).

Now I'm working on painting little people pegs.

I'm making up sets for a craft show :) 

I will be packaging them up in little bags made of fabric I designed (see below).

I'm getting pretty excited to see them all done (and hope they are well received at the craft show!).

On My Design Wall 9/17

More swap blocks have surfaced in my unpacking. I sure hoped to be all done unpacking by now, but we got REALLY busy right away after this move *sigh*

I put these blocks up and now need to find my black Kona cotton so that  I can make some more blocks with some knick-knacks to go between the books :)

Yes, we are still alive!

We are still alive and already busy in our new location *sigh* I always liked moving because we were not so busy for the first few months.

The Army Guy has been working on projects to help get my sewing area more efficient. I'll post sometime when I things put away (it is already messy)

I haven't been sewing/quilting much as we are still trying to figure out our new normal. I'm looking forward to some quality time with my machines...

We have started up our more formal homeschool year. The Boybarian had his first lab today and nothing blew up (the Army Guy was a little bit disappointed, but HE wasn't to supervise the lab).

Here's hoping I'll be back here more consistently now that structured learning has gotten a routine going...

Design Wall Monday and Birthdays

On my design Wall this week are some blocks I found while unpacking a box...I guess I need to get out my Karen Stone EQ patterns to make more of these blocks...I just love them!

Life has been busy...still have lots of boxes to unpack...we are already getting busy in our new home *sigh*

PLUS we just had a couple of birthdays at our house:

Princess Sunshine had another birthday (and didn't want to share her face). She had a traditional birthday cake. I was the one who got to make it, something I'm not used to doing as The Peanut alwasy did that before our move.

For his 14th birthday, The Boybarian didn't want a cake (YAY! no icing overload this year!). He and The Army Guy made a Strawberry Rhubarb pie instead.

Design Wall Monday

I have a design wall!!! My sister  came down and helped me do some unpacking and setting up in my sewing/quilting  area.  What a relief it is to finally have more than piles and piles of boxes in one room (other  rooms still suffer).

 On my design wall are a bunch of stars from a swap, a pair of test blocks and a bleach dispersed  piece of fabric that is inspiration for an art quilt. These are all  pieces that make me happy, so the might just inspire me!

 My  design wall is in a somewhat awkward place as it is behind the ironing board. And with unpacking, the ironing board is a mess. I have yet to find my iron, so it may be in this condition for a bit longer.

 Here is the sewing area. I had to get some small stuff up on the wall so I wasn't just looking at  boring walls while I sew :)

I'm still  unpacking boxes and  trying to find where to put things  in a more compact space (though  much nicer than my last digs).

And  I've got the  frame up  and the  machine on the frame.  Still need to connect all the cords and the light, but we are making progress - along with the fact that some  pieces  got lost in the move and I'm waiting for replacement  parts *sigh*

The top on the frame is one I made over 17 years ago, it was unearthed in a  box last week.  I think I'll work on this one first to get back into the groove of machine quilting.

The tall cabinets are for fabric storage. They have SOME fabric in them, but are  still awaiting the bulk of my fabrics...that are somewhere, in a box, in the  house or garage!
