Design Wall on Valentine's Day

on my design wall are the six blocks that I had there last week. I've been working on a dress for a military dinner this coming weekend - that is why you see my duct-tape dress dummy in front of the wall...I have pinned one spot on the waist and let the rest fall.

It isn't quite meeting my vision for this event, so I'm starting on a different dress later today that I think will meet my vision.

Here is the guy who will be my date :) He is all dressed up to go around as a Singing Valentine with his Barbershop Quartet...isn't he cute? You should see him in his Dress Blues...I'll be delighted to be his date this weekend!

Monday February 7th - on my Design Wall

I still haven't cleaned off any pesky threads...I'd much rather sew :)

I have a few more blocks done for my Father's Day Ties quilt.

All of the background fabrics are from men's shirts that I acquired at thrift shops or through some other (cheap) means. I found a length of chambray to use for the sashing and borders and I plan to somehow incorporate shirt buttons (harvested from those shirts) in the finished quilt.

Finished and shipped out!

The daisy print baby quilt was finished earlier this week, but it finally made it into a box and is now on it's journey to my step-niece and her new baby (due early next week).

Here's hoping she likes it!

AFTER I chose the fabrics and cut into them I found the note with color preferences and theme for the baby's room. *sigh* I missed again. She wanted butterflies and pink with green. Well, butterflies like daisies, right?

on my frame on Friday

I have Nobody's Perfect loaded on the frame again. It has aged long enough!

I am working on the quilting in the white areas, quilting flowers and leaves. Here I've completed the first pass...since then I've snuck down to the sewing/quilting dungeon in free moments and quilted a few more paths.

I should have the quilting finished this week and then see if I can dredge up backing for another top that is begging to be quilted!

What are you quilting this week?

Design Wall Monday January 31

Having been quilting, not sewing blocks for a week and a half, I decided to start on a project with a self-imposed deadline. A quilt for our guild quilt show at the end of April...

So, on my design wall is one little 6 1/2" block. And lots of threads. That is why I cropped the picture, I didn't realize how many threads were on my design wall!

I would have more to show, but prepping the ties to make into the fan blades is labor intensive and took a lot of my weekend. I cut enough and worked with them to get one block made. It usually gets me inspired to work on more blocks when I see that first one on my design wall.

Here are some more of the tie fan blade pieces. I have bunches and bunches more to cut, and sew, and iron, and sew some more...

The Sewing Dungeon

I'm going to give you a peek into my sewing dungeon. I call it that because I sew in an unfinished basement. Also, it has no heat, so winter sewing can be a bit chilly. I do have a little ceramic heater that I use to blow air under the sewing desk, which makes it workable.
As you can see, I have a window, so it is not dark and dreary. Though right now, with plastic to help keep the drafts out and a view of lots (and lots) of snow, it isn't as inspiring a view as summertime with flora and fauna to brighten up the day.

I will not be sharing the whole sewing dungeon because it is SO terribly messy right now *sigh* While I am creating, I don't see the mess. When I'm finished with a project, I'm overwhelmed by the mess and just move on to the next project. So, right now the piles of leftover pieces are pretty high right now (and I'd much rather create than clean).

Where do you sew/quilt/create?

What have I been working on?

I have been so busy being the driver of the mom taxi, cleaning up messes, and keeping track of the Army Guy (who currently has Casualty Assistance duty) that I've not be keeping up with posts...

I still haven't bound the daisy baby quilt, but I've got the binding cut and sitting next to the machine, ready to go.

I've been working on a quilt for my cousin. Since I know she reads the blog and I forgot to put a picture of her last quilt up, I better get a picture up this time :)

It is a fun quilt in Black and White that she is making for her daughter.

I've been enjoying working on it because the fabrics are so much fun.
I'm hoping Jos likes her quilt!
