I am running late on getting my post up - I didn't realize that today was the 19th - my day to blog!
Villa Rosa has again sponsored a Blog Hop offering a special set of patterns for the Hop:
It was hard to choose which one to do - I want to make them all! But life is too busy to make them all, so I chose Gypsy as I could picture it with some lively fabrics. Abbi Mays Fabric Shop provided the fabrics for my blog entry and will have kits available to make similar quilt for yourself.
This pattern is named for the Gypsy Rose just as many other Villa Rosa Designs patterns have been named for roses.
I chose to use Fat Sixths for the pattern, rather than a pack of 10" squares so that the same fabric could be in more than one place, giving some motion to the quilt as you follow the fabric from place to place.
The fabric line is Murano by Odile Bailoeul from Free Spirit. There were opportunities to fussy cut some of these lovely fabrics!
An important thing for this quilt is to lay out your fabrics after cutting to balance the colors. Using Fat Sixths means that you also need to balance the fabrics!
Another consideration as you sew this top together; make sure your seam allowances are accurate. There are not the same amount of seams in each round, thus if your seam allowance is off, so will your rounds be off. One way you can work around this (for those who have a generous 1/4") is to trim your round to fit the center before you sew it together.
With such a busy top, it was hard to choose a quilting design. After auditioning many different patterns, I chose to use Sugar & Spice by My Creative Stitches.
The optional border makes the quilt a really nice size for a couch throw! It is a very happy quilt with these bright fabrics.check out the other blogs participating in this hop:

Hi, Joy -- you're right about balancing the prints in Gypsy Rose. I kept switching them around, adding just one more, then more switching.
Hi Joy! Your version of Gypsy Rose was simply beautiful. I don't think you could have picked a better fabric to make it so eye catching. It's a beauty that should be looked at. I love the border, it tones it down just enough. It's perfect! Thanks for considering me for this contest my email is jason_burnside@hotmail.com

I would be just like you in auditioning fabric to make sure the fabrics work together and your Gypsy quilt turned out great. Prefer Rozz01@cox.net
I love the fabric you chose for your Gypsy quilt! And I really appreciate you using a different option (Fat Sixths) than the pattern suggested, and explaining the changes that entailed. Real life sometimes requires us to use what is on hand and then adjust, and your reminders about seam allowance and fabric placement are important.
Love your quilt. I think Gypsy Rose will be a great donation quilt pattern. Jmikebalou(at) aol (dot) com
I like the idea if using a layer cake, and the borders allow for a bigger quilt. I remember these hints.
