Design Wall Monday January 31

Having been quilting, not sewing blocks for a week and a half, I decided to start on a project with a self-imposed deadline. A quilt for our guild quilt show at the end of April...

So, on my design wall is one little 6 1/2" block. And lots of threads. That is why I cropped the picture, I didn't realize how many threads were on my design wall!

I would have more to show, but prepping the ties to make into the fan blades is labor intensive and took a lot of my weekend. I cut enough and worked with them to get one block made. It usually gets me inspired to work on more blocks when I see that first one on my design wall.

Here are some more of the tie fan blade pieces. I have bunches and bunches more to cut, and sew, and iron, and sew some more...

Nice and creative way to use up old ties!! I wonder if I could do that with my husbands. I know about the design wall! I get the sticky rollers from Ikea and when a project is removed from the wall I spend 10 minutes trying to get the worst thread and bits off my design wall! hard to get everything but it looks a bit better after a few minutes.

What an interesting way to use those ties! I use 'em to die Easter eggs! :)

They are great. I love ties, and love that ticking background. I wish I had more of them, I am on a roll finding uses for them!

I love the idea for your tie quilt. I called my mother to see if I could get my Dad's ties but she had already given them away. What a shame. I look forward to seeing how your's turns out.

Oh...a tie quilt...can't wait to see how it develops. I have some ties I am hoarding but don't know what to do with them!

What a clever use of ties. I'd love to find a stash of them.

Don't worry about the threads on the design wall -- mine is covered with them too -- it just means you've been doing stuff.
