last week in our quiet neighborhood...

We live in a quiet neighborhood with narrow streets. It is very quiet as it is not on the way to many destinations.

Last week I heard an awful noise (it sounded like a snowplow scraping up our driveway). When I looked out I saw a truck...

The truck's trailer hit the utility pole on the corner and...well...buckled in the middle. The awful scraping noise was the center of the trailer scraping the road. He also hit a pole on the previous corner, so that might have weakened the trailer.

The driver was following his GPS and the GPS sent him straight into our neighborhood rather than following the main roads to get out of town (think the mayhem commercial). He tried to get back on the right route by turning right three times rather than backing down the hill, but the streets were not wide enough for his truck and trailer.

He was not a happy camper.

The trailer was a total loss. But it had to sit until morning, blocking our driveway (and our neighbor's) until they could clear it away.

In the morning, they cut the trailer in half (what an annoying noise that was!). Now they could get inside the trailer.

This enabled them to unload. Thankfully, it was not a full load, they might have been there hours longer, especially if they needed lots of insurance documentation!

They hauled the back of the trailer away, I'm assuming there is value in the scrap metal, axles, tires and etc.

They drove the cab with what was left of the trailer off down the hill, leaving one guy to sweep the debris off the street. You can just see the tape around the utility pole. It is narrowed a bit from the accident. I'm thinking we will be getting a new utility pole across the street sometime soon!
